He was assigned to the 85th Battalion at Bramshott, England and proceeded to France on October 25, 1918. In France he was transferred to the Labour Pool at Etaples because of a vision problem on November 9, 1918 and returned to England for demobilization at Bramshott on November 23, 1918. Having returned to Canada he was given a medical discharge (vision) on demobilization at Halifax May 24, 1919. His service is remembered on the Tusket War Monument, Tusket, NS
