At Sunningdale he was posted to 39 Company, Canadian Forestry Corps and disembarked at La Havre, France on May 25, 1917. On February 2, 1918 he proceeded to a School of Cookery at Ronen and returned to 39 Company on March 9, 1918. He was awarded a Good Conduct Badge on April 8, 1918. He was granted fourteen days leave to the UK on August 9, 1918 and rejoined his Company in France on August 27, 1918. Alcide returned to Canada in February, 1919 and was discharged at Halifax on March 7, 1919.
