James Donald Schofield Private F/43879 3rd Regiment (4 Company), Canadian Special Service Battalion, R.C.I.C. James Donald Schofield was the son of Gilbert Stephen Schofield (1897-1986) and Aletha May (Borden) Schofield (1901-1987), and the brother of Eric Allison Schofield (1926-2008), Vera Schofield and Dr. Wilfred Schofield. James attended school for ten years, completed grade eleven and left school to enlist. Prior to served, he served as a Cadet for 4 years. He played the violin, enjoyed hockey, baseball, softball, and played guitar. He completed basic training in Sorel, Quebec, and advanced training at Camp Bordon. He was assessed as being a suitable candidate for paratroop or Special Services. His initial service was with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was taken on strength with the 1st Canadian Special Services Battalion on September 28, 1943. He embarked the United States after his training there on October 27, 1943 and disembarked at Casablanca on November 5, 1943. He then departed Oran on November 13 and disembarked at Naples, Italy on November 18, 1943. He served with the 3rd Regiment (HQ Detachment), First Special Service Force, at Anzio. Private Schofield killed in action in Italy at Anzio on March 13, 1944
