Daniel Cummings McMasters Private F/63755 Canadian Special Service Battalion, R.C.I.C. 3rd Regiment (HQ Detachment) August 18, 1923 Kemptown, Colchester County, NS March 29, 1943 Truro, Nova Scotia 123 Young St., Truro, NS 19 5 feet, 9¾ inches Dark Brown Hazel Single Lumberman and Truck Driver Church of England Seldon McMasters (Father) Truro, NS May 23, 1944 20 Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy XVII, E, 8 Daniel Cummings McMasters was the son of Seldon Cummings McMasters (1896-1989) and Esther Olive (O'Neil) McMasters (b. 1904). A brother, Robert McMasters, also served overseas with the Canadian Army. Daniel completed basic training at Camp 60 CIBTC in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on June 17, 1943, and proceeded to Camp Bordon for advanced training. There In September 1943 he volunteered for parachute training and was taken on strength with the 1st Canadian Special Service Battalion. He qualified as a parachutist on October 4, 1943. He embarked the United States after his training there on October 27, 1943 and disembarked at Casablanca on November 5, 1943. He then departed Oran on November 13 and disembarked at Naples, Italy on November 18, 1943. He served with the 3rd Regiment (HQ Detachment), First Special Service Force, at Anzio. Private McMasters was killed in action in Italy during the Anzio breakout on May 23, 1944
