Lawrence Burrill was the son of John Burrill (1853-1928) and Mary Alice (Montaque) Burrill (1855-1924).
His name on his birth record is documented as Laurence Burrell. He was the brother of George Isaac
Burrill (1877-1967), Amy Burrell (1889-1953), and Fannie (Burrell) Hatfield (1892-1982), and the
husband of Hannah Primelia (Pitman) Burrill (1903-1990).
Hannah’s brother, Private Wilfred Stansfield Pitman (1894-1972) also served during the First World War
(Service No. 1283412) with the 246th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. Wilfred’s son, Private
Leslie Wilford Pitman (1918-1994) served in the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps during the Second World
War.
Lawrence had previously completed his medical examination October 27, 1917, in Yarmouth, Nova
Scotia, before enlisting in Sussex, New Brunswick on July 19, 1918.
Enlisting with the 1st Depot Battalion of the New
Brunswick Regiment, he served in Canada, and then
in England and France with the 44th Battalion.
