Peter George Boutilier was the son of Peter George Boutilier (1832-1916), and Rebecca Agnes
Dauphinee (1852-1901), the brother of Florence Boutilier (b. 1883) and Jennie Boutilier (b. 1885),
the husband of Jennie Evelyn (Prosser) Boutilier (1898-1968), and father of Robert Peter Boutilier
(1928-1988), Virginia Ruth Boutilier (b. 1931), and George Maurice Boutilier (1933-2004).
Peter obtained his diploma in land surveying from the Nova Scotia Technical College on March 7,
1916. He became a well known Land Surveyor in Nova Scotia. He worked with Ralph Pickard Bell to
identify and develop the lumber and pulp and paper industry in the province.
Peter served in Canada, England, and France with the 10th Siege Battery of the Royal Canadian
Artillery, Canadian Expeditionary Forces, and was discharged with the 1st Depot Battalion in
Halifax in 1919.
He married Jennie Evelyn Prosser October 10, 1922, in Yarmouth, NS. His son Robert was born in
Tusket in 1928. On June 20, 1930, Peter was appointed Commissioner of the Supreme Court of
Nova Scotia at Tusket. In 1931, he was living
In 1942, he was elected President, Nova Scotia Fish and Game Protective Association. Owned and
operated Boutilier-Prosser sawmill in Yarmouth.
He died at the age of 85 and is interred at
Mountain Cemetery in Yarmouth, NS.
