Timeline of World War I
August 4, 1914  Germany invades neutral Belgium. Britain declares war on Germany and Austria-Hungary.   Canada joins the war with Britain Patriotism and enthusiasm greeted the news in Canada  “We stand shoulder to shoulder with Britain” Prime Minister of Canada Robert Borden - (August, 1914) August 19, 1914  The first volunteers begin to arrive at Valcartier camp.   Within weeks over 30,000 Canadian volunteers were in training at the newly constructed Valcartier camp near Quebec City. August 6, 1914  Britain accepts Canada's offer of troops.  An expeditionary force is authorized by the Canadian cabinet. August 7, 1914  Sam Hughes, Minister of Militia and Defence of Canada orders the construction of a training camp in Valcartier, Quebec.
August 27, 1914 Captain Lloyd Woolsey Bingay (Born in Yarmouth NS February 5, 1877) Completes Attestation at Valcartier. Bingay was a Veteran of the Boar War.
