On Saturday, May 10th, 4 members of the Wartime Heritage Association visited Second World War RCAF and RAF Veteran Ron Gaudet at his home in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to present him with the UK Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge.

The Association applied for the Veterans Badge, on behalf of three eligible Veterans, with the Ministry of Defence at Whitehall in London, England.

In addition to Ron Gaudet, Royal Navy Veteran's Fred Sandy and David Chaplin also received their Badges in May of 2008. Both are residents of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The badge is an enamelled, engraved, and pinned, lapel badge featuring the words “HM Armed Forces – Veteran”, "which encompass the Tri-Service, Anchor, Crossed Swords and Eagle motif. Its symbolism is intended to unite all veterans in recognising the commonality of their service, to encourage a sense of unity and community between surviving veterans and to ignite public recognition of current veterans and their continuing contribution to society".

Veterans of the United Kingdom can obtain information on eligibility and apply for the UK Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge on the "Veterans UK website" of the British Ministry of Defence.
